The Tokyo 2020 Olympics, guided by the motto ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger and Together,’ undeniably lived up to its name. It witnessed the shattering of several World Records, celebrated numerous instances of genuine friendships, and reignited the essence of the ‘Olympic Spirit.’ In 2020, none of us could have anticipated the Olympics taking place, but a glimmer of hope proved sufficient. Although 2021’s atmosphere differed significantly, with no fans to offer cheers, limited media interactions, and the absence of resounding ovations in the silent stadiums, the Olympics embraced the addition of ‘Together’ to its motto, reaffirming its true essence. This decision exemplifies the genuine spirit of the Games, as athletes rallied to support one another and endeavored to create a powerful ambiance. With all stadiums closed, swimming pools emptied, and running tracks deserted, the practice routines of every athlete were abruptly halted, and hope seemed to fade away. Training alone at home and on desolate stretches of roads could potentially erode one’s focus and motivation to train harder. However, these world-class athletes refused to waver in confidence and demonstrated their mastery in their respective disciplines. This demonstrates their unrelenting determination to achieve, as the ultimate goal of every athlete is to participate in the grandest global event, the Olympics. The Tokyo 2020 Games faced numerous challenges, including injustices, protests, and political controversies. Nonetheless, the result was a beautifully executed Olympic Games that will forever hold a special place in our hearts—an event destined for the annals of history, remembered for its indomitable spirit.
